Victoria introduces nomination fees and publishes its points test for 2026–27

Live in Melbourne, the Victorian Government’s skilled migration service, announced on 13 October 2026 that fees for service now apply to Registrations of Interest and to nomination applications for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

The 2026–27 fees

  • Registration of Interest: $60, or $66 including GST
  • Subclass 190 nomination application: $180, or $198 including GST
  • Subclass 491 nomination application: $180, or $198 including GST

GST of 10% applies if you are in Australia when you pay. The Registration of Interest fee is charged once per program year, so withdrawing and submitting a new one in the same year is not charged again. The nomination application fee is payable only if you are invited and submit a nomination application, and it applies each time one is submitted. Only Visa and Mastercard are accepted, and the fees are generally non-refundable.

How Victoria ranks Registrations of Interest

Live in Melbourne has also published the weighting of the seven factors in its Victorian Points Test: age, English, experience in the nominated occupation, education, occupation skill level, partner’s skill, and annual earnings from skilled employment in Victoria. There is no pass mark. Each invitation round invites the highest totals across all eligible occupations, and the highest totals within each 2026–27 priority industry: healthcare, social assistance, education and construction.

Our Victoria points calculator works out the total from the published tables and lists every priority occupation.

Registrations from earlier years

A Registration of Interest submitted in a previous program year does not carry over. To be considered in 2026–27, log in to the Live in Melbourne portal and submit a new one when the program opens. As at 13 October 2026, Live in Melbourne has said information about the opening will be provided when available.

Questions and answers

Do I pay the Victorian nomination fee if I am not invited?

No. The $180 nomination application fee ($198 including GST) is payable only if Victoria invites you to apply for nomination and you submit a nomination application. The $60 Registration of Interest fee ($66 including GST) is paid when you register interest.

Is the Victorian Registration of Interest fee refundable?

Generally not. Live in Melbourne states the fees will not be refunded merely because a Registration of Interest does not lead to an invitation, a nomination is refused, or an application is withdrawn. A refund may be given for an administrative or technical error, or where the service cannot be provided.

When does Victoria’s 2026–27 skilled nomination program open?

As at 13 October 2026, no opening date had been published. Live in Melbourne has said information about the 2026–27 program will be provided when available.
